A remake of the Spanish film Open Your Eyes , this thriller from director Cameron Crowe bears one of several discarded titles for his previous, Oscar-winning film Almost Famous Tom Cruise stars as David Ames, a womanizing playboy who finds romantic redemption when he falls in love with his best friend's girlfriend Sofia Penelope Cruz, reprising her role from the original film.

Before that relationship can begin, however, David is coaxed into a car driven by an ex-lover, Julie Cameron Diaz , who turns out to be suicidal. Driving her car off a bridge, Julie kills herself and horribly disfigures David. Reconstructive surgery and the loving support of Sofia seem to reverse David's luck, but eerie incidents are soon making him question the reality of his existence and his control over his life, even while he is suspected of complicity in Julie's death. Vanilla Sky bears the expected Crowe trademark of an obsession with recent pop culture and particularly rock music, a more important element of the remake than the original film.
Yes, '' Vanilla Sky '' is a timely fable about male vanity. The message of the film, which reunites the star with Cameron Crowe, who directed him in '' Jerry Maguire ,'' isn't exactly reassuring. Looks are everything, it says, with money preferably oodles of it a close second.
But if you lose your looks, all the money in the world won't mean diddly unless it can somehow buy them back. In this highly entertaining, erotic science-fiction thriller that takes Mr. Crowe into Steven Spielberg territory, Mr. Cruise emerges from a near-fatal car crash with a grotesquely disfigured face. Then, through a miracle of cosmetic surgery, his beauty and the perfect love it once attracted are restored.
Or so it seems. The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc. Vanilla Sky, after a number of faux-release dates, finally gets released on Blu-ray by Paramount. The theatrical version is seamlessly branched with the 'alternate ending' version, with essentially the same bitrate but there was an issue. The branching moves over with about minutes of the film left since that is where the differences begin , but the P quality alters to be significantly less in the 'alt' version sequence starting with minutes left in the film.

I just don't understand how anyone can dislike this movie Vanilla Sky is a dark psychological drama about dreams, reality and 'what might have been'. Tom Cruise is Dave, a yuppie who has it all. His personal life is a mess, with a shallow relationship with Julie Cameron Diaz the closest he gets to love, while his best friend Brian Jason Lee who adores Julie sticks by him regardless.
However, on holding a birthday party he's introduced to Sofia The perfect Penelope Cruz and falls instantly for her. This is all very well but the plot is parallel to a side story of Dave wearing a white mask in a cell with Dr McCabe Kurt Russell who's accusing him of murder and wants to understand why it happened. Dave begins on a journey to make sense of his life.

But only viewing this on its own terms I absolutely love this movie. It keeps you guessing, and the ending is very conclusive. It's nice that they included that. I wonder what "And More Vanilla Sky secrets via The Uncool: Totally non-representative of the film, and would fail to entice anyone unfamiliar with the film to purchase it.
Can we not make it law to use theatrical art? Glad I didn't buy the german blu-ray seeing this one has loads of extras. Really interested in this new ending. Loaded with extras which is nice.
Hopefully, it's been given a nice transfer as well!!!! This makes the movie look like it's about how David is in love with Sophia and that the whole story winds up being about that in the end and his ultimate journey to get back to her. I much prefer the cover that's just David standing there staring at That made the movie look like it was about David standing there staring at something. Far more representative of the film.
I watched it in theaters at an interesting time in my life and it definitely moved me. The soundtrack is one of my favorites.

Crowe's films are always warm and tender and make me feel as if I'm falling in love all over again with my girl. However, this film throws a curve ball at you and I respect that. I will always prefer a beautifully simplistic cover to a big heads frowning over a landscape photo shop deal.
I can't wait to finally own it in hopefully a great transfer. You are becoming or became the worst company for cover arts. Go back to the original covers already. Hopefully it is indeed released at that date The band had not put out the album on which the song is played in the movie, so Cameron had to use a live recording of the song just to get it into his movie. Kinda obsessed about this movie actually, so I'm glad it's finally getting detailed.
First day buy for me. It said May 5 yesterday. Warner has been screwing with us for years about this release, and by the way can warner just make a official announcement on the date of Rush Hour 2 also that would be much appreciated! Now the pessimist in me wouldn't be surprised if something happens between now and June 30 to push it back yet again! But I'm guessing not. Anyway, I actually love this cover art, unlike most here.
Wasn't expecting all the new features. Will definitely buy it.
