I'll definitely be reading the rest. While on vacation in Aruba, four teens spot something landing on the beach and go to check it out late at night. One of them accidentally makes it open up, and while they are horsing around, his arm lands in the opening, and he is sucked into who knows where or what. No one believes them at first, and then strange communications begin. Where will it take us? Where did he go? You'll have to read the second book to find out. Each was intrigued enough to purchase the books associated with the name they received. Only one shared the name of her ideal lover.
I had just started the book and I immediately realized it was true. Her ex, her first real love, is Kurt Kramer. His brother is the embodiment of Mitch. His best friend is Lance. Sally is his emotionally absent mother and Jack is his father right down to going shirtless around the house.
Even the story line parallels what, in their case, led to the end of their relationship. Her ex just disappeared one day. He later resurfaced miles away. I was awed, but did not share my revelations. I am most interested in hearing her revelations. My other two friends would only provide the name of the book their ideal lover appears in. Lust, Money and Murder. All are now intrigued with the author's work.
Even though this is part of his young adults series, adults will take away some lessons learned as well. This book is a combination of sci-fi, mystery and a childhood romance all rolled into one gripping package. Mike has the uncanny ability of building suspense in every scene thus keeping the reader glued to each page and anxiously turning to the next to learn the outcome.
The characters are real, believable and interesting and engage the reader into caring about their demise or survival. This mystery is set on the little island of Aruba with its warm temperatures and windy gusts blowing sand and kicking up the surf. This atmosphere creates an excellent background for this story of a son's disappearance while on vacation.
Friends and family work frantically to find Kurt. This is book 1 and I anxiously look forward to reading book 2. Will they find Kurt? Another gripping story by the creative master of multiple genres. I really like how this story played out, keeping you focused on the matters at hand, I never lost track of the story once. Every character in the story was realistic and fitting, a very believable cast of characters.
I would love to check out more book by the writer, and will buy the next book as soon as possible. Since both books could have easily been wrapped up in one, wherein which, it would have been more convenient to readers like me, who don't like two part mini stories. A pretty decent little book with well rounded characters that were fairly easy to connect with.
The plot was interesting and it kept me engaged - it wasn't an every day sort of story.
- Death of a Gossip (Hamish Macbeth Book 1)!
- Elementary School Counseling: A Commitment to Caring and Community Building?
- DRACHE UND PHÖNIX - Band 2: Goldene Kuppeln (German Edition).
- Die Kunst der Höchstleistung: Sportpsychologie, Coaching, Selbstmanagement (German Edition)!
- Smashwords Interview.
- Counterpoint: The Presidents Audacious Re-election Scheme;
It had some real ingenuity and thought put into it - which I was surprised with, given how short the book is. The writer isn't of little talent. I felt a bit cheated at the end of this book. I can't comment much more until I read part two. I really enjoy Mike Wells' style of writing. This story grabbed my attention from the very beginning and I couldn't stop reading until I finished both book 1 and book 2. You must get book 2 to find out what happens to Kurt and his friends.
The story is unique and full of action. What attracted me to the novel, in the first place was the mention of Aruba, my favourite place on the planet!
But soon I discovered that there is more to the book than the exotic scenery. In the story their son disappears and their reactions are dramatic but not unbelievable. In fact, reading this book was like watching a good science fiction movie, where the great acting brings out all the high points of the plot. The main characters were good, too, but probably younger people could relate to them better. He is so much like my husband!
