This book and the sweet girl in the book has touched me more than any book I have ever read. It was so well- written and it was though the girl became my friend as it brought everything to life.
I felt her pain. I feel a sense of loss now that the book is ended, as if I've lost a dear friend I came to love and understand as she shared the story of her life. What Maureen and her friends endured was terrible and so sad for her friend Kathy who could not cope with coming to London to work she was instituted by the Nuns that she never really got over it despite being adopted at ten years old, it must have effected so m Orphan black So sad, what Maureen went through must have been terrible, but schools also had that awful pressure of the cruel nuns, smacking ones hands with rulers till they were burning, life lucky enough is no longer like that thank God.
What Maureen and her friends endured was terrible and so sad for her friend Kathy who could not cope with coming to London to work she was instituted by the Nuns that she never really got over it despite being adopted at ten years old, it must have effected so many of the girls. Moving story When I read the sample of this book I wasn't sure it was for me, but I'm so pleased I carried on with it. The story of Maureens life and suffering with the nuns was shocking. Although they were not all as cruel as one certain one. A Catholic priest was just as wicked too. I would love to know how Maureens life progressed.
Such a well written book, I could really feel for Maureen, and the other orphans who suffered so badly. This story tells vividly the hardships she suffered and witnessed. Despite this she fights to make a life for herself and find out how she came to be there. Very sad and thought provoking book, would recommend. Brilliant well written Excellent and lovable. Very good to read and makes you understand that this is what happens to girls in places like this behind closed doors. So very true and well written and explained from the heart. A wonderful read A very touching and sad story yet truly heart warming.
Maureen comes across as a very brave and kind person. Hope she follows on with her story and finds true contentment. Fantastic book Best book I have read on a long time I hope there is a follow up to this story highly recommended. Annies gurl What a page turning book. I have been caught up in this story of a young girls life. I would love to read of her life after. Annie's Girl Brilliant book. Hope there is a follow up to this book. Heart breaking The anger at those evil nuns and how they got away with what they have done to children for years makes me sick. Maureen has so much inner strength she amazed me.
Good read Sad story, frustrating at times to think these things actually happened to young children. You follow her through willing for things to go right for her. May 23, Noreen rated it it was amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. All through the book I was wondering why she didn't report the cruelty to the children, but apart from that a very good read. But she shows resilience through it all. Very much worth a read.
