I consider it speaking of the three volumes together the most important book I have ever read because it describes so well and in such depth how we reached this extremely dangerous stage we are at now. There are a few things that stood out for me in addition to the great debunking of many familiar myths of propaganda that Israel hides behind such as that Israel was ever in danger of being "driven into the sea": That any notion that Israel is a democracy is just fiction. It is a militarist state in which its generals have throughout its history made the real decisions, and the elected civilian leaders including their lawless supreme court have then had to make policy and in their terms, "law" around these disastrous decisions that often resulted in war crimes.
That any detailed examination of Israel's history as this book renders, shows that a Zionist lobby or Israel lobby has effectively called the shots as to how first the British government the U.
Any denial of the existence of such a lobby from shortly after the Zionist movement began until now is rendered ridiculous by the facts of history detailed in this book. That a desire for a Greater Israel, expressed by the very earliest fanatical Zionists has driven nearly every aggressive course of action Israel has taken under the guise of protecting itself.

What's also astounding is that there has been a course of continuous one-upsmanship in ruthlessness in pursuit of expansionism from Israeli prime minister to prime minister well beyond the point where they had defeated all external enemies and arrived at internal subjugation of the Palestinians and so were in no real danger. You'll read about the blood oath taken by top generals and security people in to never withdraw from the West Bank. And for me how subsequent events are evidence that Israeli actions could only be explainable by the existence of such an oath.
Against backdrop of the recent uprisings in the Arab world, the Epilogue reads like prophecy. And one fundamental point which has the weight of the voluminous history in the book of betrayal of the Palestinian and by extension the Arab people behind it is that this history of injustice which the United States has husbanded has been a recruiting tool for dangerous Islamic extremism, the threat of which looms over everyone, but which would likely as the author puts it, "die of natural causes" if we would only do what almost everyone in the world save some politicos in both Israel and the U.
Even those already committed to Palestinian rights and those knowledgeable about the history of Zionism would benefit from reading this book because I don't know of a better source for understanding the entire picture. Hart's fascinating book shed a light on many somewhat hidden aspects of this conflict, and I am deeply grateful for him to do that. Since most people are either for it or against it, that reaction is either full of affection for it, or the opposite, full of hate. I would think that this book makes one to choose a different path, one that a thinking person must take, in order to be honest about the actual situation.
The main point of Mr. Hart's book is that Israel is not the mythical little innocent dove among the blood-thirsty hawks.
Israel is the strongest military power of that region, and has been that for decades. All the peace-loving Israeli leaders who wanted to negotiate with the Arab states, even back in the 's had been stabbed in the back by the right-wing military leaders, especially Dayan. The peace-process was mainly torpedoed by the extreme-right wing settler community who gave the spiritual and moral backing for the types that produced the killer of Yitzchak Rabin.
I could not emphasize it enough how important I think it is to read this book. One does not have to agree with each and every line of it, of course, but in general, it is obvious that the author is also deeply worried about the implications of the current situation, which is leading us to a very big confrontation with possibly disastrous consequences for the entire world.
