His face was as serious as an executioner. I dinna let anyone take what is mine, madam. He snorted, clearly doubting her.

Anne snapped her lips shut because her temper was rising. However, she could at least take solace in the fact that insulting him was definitely something Mary would have done. His lips pressed tightly together as she failed to answer. I thought it was against the law to be a nun in England. Anne raised her chin to find the earl frowning at her again.

His eyes were a darker blue than his brothers. She shivered, a chill shooting down her spine. His eyes narrowed as the hand pressing across her back felt the ripple of reaction. Heat bled across her cheeks once again as she inhaled the scent of his skin. Her belly suddenly tightened with the oddest sensation. With a hard shove she tried to escape from his hold. He scoffed at her. A soft sound of male disgruntlement. Her eyes widened as he retained his hold. His arm was like steel, binding her to his body. His gaze narrowed once more. A moment later her French hood was tugged off her head, pulling her hair as he plucked it free.
He studied her face for a long moment before releasing her. One foot plunged into the mud as she placed distance between them. A flicker of amusement entered his eyes as he stood blocking her path, using the river and his larger size to keep her at his mercy. She pushed past him, uncaring of how close she was to his body anymore. He followed her up the bank. Return to Book Page. The second part and picks off when Kit returns home from a rough tour with loads of self-doubts but firm in his love for Sophie but he isn't sure that is enough. We see the effects of war, his childhood and how a relationship progresses after the whole chemistry phase.
Kit does not want to talk and Sophie too has her problems. I love the whole sexy element of the book, Sophie is her usual happy self while Kit also doesn't change. So, no personality transplant. This was a very enjoyable two-parter.

Feb 23, AMythicalBeast rated it really liked it. It's a very good thing I'm determined not to score India Grey's books against the larger literary works of the english novel writing world. While her writing is very good, her plots all have a feel of been there, worked that to death. Her saving grace is that she can bring these oft used tropes to new life. Also, what is it about category romances that most of the suspense, drama and intrigue happen inside the characters' heads?
There's always a misunderstanding, there's always lack of communicat It's a very good thing I'm determined not to score India Grey's books against the larger literary works of the english novel writing world. There's always a misunderstanding, there's always lack of communication and there's always one of the protagonists running after the other in the end, in a final bid to save the relationship - or to apologize for being a jerk. The whole apologize-confess-finally declare true feelings always happens in one conversation just before the epilogue.
I know that this whole genre is emotion based, so perhaps it's not surprising that the outside world rarely truly intrudes into the story - it's always a personal conflict of trust, compatibility, wrong assumptions, worth-complex as in: Trust is a big plot device.
Bring forth a hundred randomly selected romance novels and I'll promise you that trust features heavily in ninety of them. It's a big issue in life too. Only in romance novels trust can be broken in two ways: Anyway, that's the previous book in this duology. In this story trust isn't the main plot device unless you really want to go into the subtext. The issues are partly - abandonment and fear of rejection. But what I loved about it was that - 1 It's a continuation from the HEA ending of the book Craving the Forbidden, going more into the issues that crop up when you declare love and commitment to someone you've known all of four weeks and when one of you returns from a far away war torn country with PTSD and doesn't know what's wrong with him.
There is the Lack of Communication trope in play because the hero is scared that if he tells the heroine she might stay with him out of pity and he couldn't do that to her not given his parents' history , and so he's hot in bed and cold out of it, and our heroine ends up feeling shitty about herself. Because that's what brings up a happily ever after. This is a really rambling review, and you have my apologies for it.

These books just reminded me why I gave up reading category romances there's no plot, really, beyond the romance and why I once found them so addictive it's ALL about the romance! The hero Kit returns home after active military duty full of pain and guilt after an incident that left a fellow soldier injured. It has also left Kit doubting himself. However he doesn't doubt his love for Sophie, the heroine, and when they reunite it's full of passion. Kit struggles to get over the traumatic events and after even more long buried family secrets are revealed, he finds himself pulling further and further away from Sophie.

It hurts Sophie that Kit won't talk to her, she has also got a lot to tell him about events in her life while he was away on duty. The more time that passes they get more and more distant with each other, the only time they truly connect is their very explosive and passionate moments, but Sophie soon realises that it is not enough.
Kit's foundation is rocked even more when he fears that he may have a genetic disease and begins to think that he has nothing to offer Sophie. Another fantastic book, and a great second part to Kit and Sophie's journey. This book is jam packed with tension, with a capital T! And, it is enthralling all the way through. The fact that the hero and heroine are already in a relationship and this continues through the entire book is fabulous.
It's original and very well executed. He's never met her, but what matter? She'll grace his bed eventually, and once she bears his child he need see her no more. Anne Copper looks just like her noble half-sister, but she was born illegitimate, and can never forget it. The best she can hope for is to stay a serving girl in her own father's house. But when Lady Mary finds herself betrothed to a Scot, it seems there's a use for Anne after all.
