I must confess, while skimming over the book, I became captivated by the wit in this impossible diary of a housecat chronicling his adventures and misinterpretations of his humans.
He starts by listing his New Year s resolutions then describes his adventures with his human family. He develops a rather full social life up and down the lane; becomes a member of a gang, saves the life of a fox, then marries and not the pretty white Persian either! But I admire two of his final New Year s resolution the most to become the world s most famous cat and to truly promote world peace between cats, dogs and mice! This wonderful tale could be enjoyed by a young teenager or read aloud to a child. I certainly enjoyed the hero s rather skewered misinterpretations of his humans behavior.
They share a home with their cat Mistoffelees well, to be more precise, Mistoffelees owns the home; Stuart and Linda merely pay the mortgage. They have written 15 other books including: Utterly Adorable Cats, which has been translated into 20 languages, and The Little Book of Calm for Cats, plus over a dozen other books. The secret lives and loves of cats are revealed in this adventure novel, that peeks into a year in the life of the mischievous feline Adrian Cat. Adrian is having trouble keeping his new year's resolutions especially "I will not be condescending to my humans" , and he's also adjusting to the fact that his humans have a new baby, his best friend needs constant help, and he's in love for the first time with the angelic-seeming Snowball.
But Snowball turns out to be less than perfect and tries to lead Adrian into organized crime. She forces him to join the evil cat Killer s gang. After numerous misadventures he realizes that he does not love the beautiful but power-crazed Snowball and really loves the scruffy yet tender alley cat named Gypsy. After Killer s gang runs Gypsy out of town, Adrian is forced to make some strange friends, fight the evil Killer and travel a rough road in order to convince Gypsy of his love.

This absolutely charming book is a parody on the Adrian Mole diaries by Sue Townsend, a series of books I have read several times and find delightful. The Secret Diary of Adrian Cat will join my "reread this over and over pile". It was funny, poignant, and soooooo spot on for the life of a cat. When I read the diary entry that he had slept a meager 21 hours today and thought he must be getting insomnia I was hooked! I have a cat with that exact kind of insomnia! I love the running gag that Trousers keeps sitting in the cat's new chair.
It is a perfect way to show that if a cat can see it, it's his. Loved the introduction of the "human kitten" and the cat's lament at how long it took it to learn the most basic of functions like crawling! However, you do not have to have read or even heard of the Adrian Mole diaries to enjoy this book.
Without having read the Adrian Mole diaries, this book stands alone as a real tribute to our beloved cats and what they get up to all day when you're gone wallpaper scratching and sleeping mostly. After reading the Mole diaries as well it is a double whammy of FUN! While it seems to be rated as a children's book, it is suitable for anyone of any age.
You know you want to! I read this silly book aloud to my two boys, ages 13 and They were laughing so hard through many parts that I was laughing at them and could hardly get the words out. If you are looking for some ridiculous fun and fluffy no pun intended reading and enjoy cats at all, this book is well worth downloading. My boys have since read this aloud to each other with lots of uncontrollable giggling fits, so the novelty has not worn off. Thumbs up from our family for sure.
This delightful read witty, funny, a little sad and full of feline adventure. Easy to put down, but I eagerly picked it up again every night. Children's Fiction Animal Stories Pets.
