But soon she comes to care for him.
And when he confronts the evil man who stole his daughter, forced her into marriage and beats her, the heroine falls in love. His love for his daughter and his pride and honor make her love him. At first, he spurns her love, all for her own good. He doesn't believe himself loveable, and tries to push her away. Safe to say that doesn't go as planned and now he must fight both his many enemies as well as his sense of honor. Searching himself for what he truly wants out of life. I found this book to be a toss up between a 3 star and a 4 star. Though I generally liked the story and had no real complaints, there were things about it I liked more than others.
First off, I loved the fact that the heroine couldn't speak. This prevented her from being that typical sassy modern woman tossed back in time. I couldn't tell you how happy I was to learn that she could only say pop culture references inside her own head. I liked the hero as he went from gruff lord who's known only torment and pain in his life, to a charming courting man to finally a man whom will give up everything for the woman he loves. But I found myself wincing when the heroine falls in love and gets her voice back and there were fantastical things about the whole plot that I didn't feel added up.
Though is didn't like it nearly as much as the other time travel novel Wings Of The Storm, I thought this was a pleasure book. Jun 01, Monica added it. Filled with romance and adventure. Susan really knows how to bring you into her world!

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Worthwhile read as a different approach to the time travel romance. The story doesn't revolutionize time-travel romance but it does reinvigorate it: The main character, in particular, feels so much more realistic in her reactions than the average heroine - scared and then angry about how she reacted - and the issues she has in the past are a thoughtful touch.
I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to someone who enjoys a romance. Here is an author that knows how to do time-travel romance well. In fact, the very first romance book I purchased was Wings Of The Storm, by the same author, and it remains my favourite time-travel romance novel. I felt transported in to the world of this book, I felt what the characters felt. The descriptions of this medieval world in general were right on the money and I especially enjoyed the twist in the female lead being asian and what trouble that brings her with the local french people of the time thinking she is a devil!
Other than the old tale of The Three Ravens, I have never before read a story where the lead character is unable to speak for a good portion of the book. Regardless of this obstacle the author has brought her full-to-life. The heroine is under a curse and until she falls in love the curse of being unable to speak will remain. Absolutely wonderful and refreshing to read a passionate love story that can develop so strongly with one of the main characters being unable to talk for a good while!
Lord John Grey/Drums of Autumn
The hero is definitely a catch. Not only is he all the things you'd expect in a fierce and handsome warrior but he has his sensitive side as well that made my heart melt. He is intensely sexy and the passion the hero and heroine experience is undeniably hot. Don't expect the sizzling passionate scenes to come straight away though, expect for the passion to build up over time in the most pleasing, toe-curling way. Such a satisfying read in more ways than one!
I must say also that the cover art showing the hero doesn't do him justice in the slightest. I almost did not pick this book up because of the cover - and normally I disregard covers all together and rely on the blurb on the back. I will be revisiting this book in future and invite you to do the same. One person found this helpful. This was one of the best medieval time travel romances I have ever read. A young half Asian woman is transported to medieval France by a wizard intent on rescuing his friend from a doomed future.

It is unique in that most such stories usually have Caucasian heroines. Her Asian heritage is critical to the storylne because, being so exotic, people from this era mistake her for a demon or the like. In the modern world the heroine is a sort of film critic. When she first arrives in medieval France, she is forced into the role of storyteller, and the stories she tells, based on movies, put into medieval terms, is hilarious. Loved the ending, don't read ahead! This is yet another winner for Ms.
I have read almost every time travel stories that she has written, and if you enjoy a good story with plenty of romance, read this book. Susan Sizemore is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers. The heroine, an American of Chinese-Scots decent finds herself in medieval France and in the middle of prejudice, betrayal and intrigue.
She has to find her way through all of this while teaching the Lord of the Manor the meaning of love and giving him the will to live. Another one of the authors novels that I liked, if a bit far fetched at times
